Cops launch exemption passes for those involved in vital services

Kolkata: Kolkata Police have launched an online system for obtaining exemption passes for essential services and online delivery service providers.

On Friday, Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Anuj Sharma launched the new system at Lalbazar. The passes will be given to individuals as well as employees of organisations connected with emergency and essential services.

People who wish to obtain them will have to click on the link provided in the Kolkata Police website, following which a page will appear where the applicant will have to click on the 'I agree' box. Another page will appear where the details of the individual or organisation along with employee's name, vehicle number, mobile number, e-mail address, purpose and area or route of operation are to be mentioned. Scanned copy of two supporting documents for identity proof and purpose needs to be uploaded.

After submitting the application, the pass will be sent to the e-mail address from where it can be downloaded and printed. The printed copy will need to be pasted on the vehicle. Also, the pass holders must carry identity proof with him or her.

At the checkpoints, the pass holders will be first verified and then allowed to proceed. For that purpose, a QR code will be there on the pass which can be scanned through smartphones to check its originality.

Sources informed that only those individuals who are officially connected with any emergency services or online delivery systems will be given the pass. Sources also added that this pass will be acknowledged for movement within Kolkata as well as to bring objects and materials from outside the city. But any individual or organisation operating from outside Kolkata Police's jurisdiction will have to apply for the pass locally, which will also be acknowledged in Kolkata.
