Cops form investigating team to probe RBU vulgarity incident over Bansanta Utsav
Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has formed an investigation team to probe the incident associated with Basanta Utsav at Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) where some young men and women were found with obscene words written on their bodies with colours of different shades and distorted a song of Rabindranath Tagore.
The police team comprises of officers from the cyber-crime wing. The authorities of RBU had filed a complaint with Sinthi police station on Friday in this regard.
Meanwhile, state Education minister Partha Chatterjee refused to accept the resignation of
Rabindra Bharati Vice-Chancellor and asked him to continue with his duties as Vice-Chancellor. Rabindra Bharati University V-C Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury had sent his resignation through e-mail to the minister on Friday night.
"I have spoken with Rabindra Bharati University Vice-Chancellor this on Saturday morning. I have told him that what happened at the varsity campus is a social malady and why should he take responsibility for that. I have asked him to continue as V-C and have made it clear that his resignation will not be accepted," Chatterjee said.
Chatterjee, however, has asked Basu Ray Chaudhury to decide on regulating crowd at the varsity during Basanta Utsav. Lakhs of people attend pre-Holi celebrations at the Rabindra Bharati University campus and it was no exception on Thursday too.
Chatterjee reiterated that law will take its own course and the police administration will probe the complaint very seriously.
Basu Ray Chaudhury who reached the varsity on Saturday morning did not attend his office. Later in the day, he said that he is withdrawing his resignation as Vice-Chancellor.
"Honourable Education minister and students of the university have asked me not to resign. Hence, I have decided to withdraw my resignation," he added.
Five of the six students who were involved in the act turned up at the varsity campus on Friday and sought an apology from the authorities for their actions. They, claimed themselves to be students of Chandanagore College in Hooghly and were interrogated by the security officer in the varsity.
