Cops find firearms parts from ladies compartment of Namkhana local

Police seized parts of firearms from a ladies compartment in a sub-urban train at Sealdah Station on Tuesday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a raid in the Sealdah-Namkhana Local when it was standing at platform number 14 in Sealdah Station. They found a bag under a seat in a ladies compartment of the train.
They searched the bag and found parts of 22 pistols. In a bid to distract the police, the pistols were covered with clothes.
Police questioned some of the commuters in the compartment but they failed to give any clue to help police identify the person who had left the bag in the train.
Police initiated a probe in this connection and are trying to find out the ones behind this. Police suspect that the accused was/were taking the parts of the pistols to a firearms manufacturing factory.
Police feel that the accused is a resident of South 24 Parganas and had chosen to keep the bag in a ladies
compartment considering that no one will suspect that firearms were being carried in the bag.
In another incident, police arrested 10 persons on charges of running a firearms manufacturing unit at Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas. Police had seized several machineries and they sealed the factory.
Police are now trying to find that to whom they used to sell the firearms. A few days ago, some people from Munger were arrested from Tiljala area in the city on charges of running an illegal firearms manufacturing factory. The police are trying to find out whether the accused from Ashoknagar has any connection with those from Kolkata.
The police have intensified raids at different places to
arrest those carrying illegal firearms or involved with selling of the same.
