Cop who killed his daughter & wife arrested from relative's house

Kolkata: A police constable who had allegedly killed his wife and 11-year-old daughter in Hooghly's Chinsurah on October 7 has been arrested.
The accused Prabhat Roy attached to the state police had been absconding since the incident happened. Acting on a specific information, police have arrested the accused from one of his relatives' house in Burdwan on late Monday night. Police are also investigating if the accused was involved in the murder of his wife and his younger daughter.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused might have been involved in the incident. The victim was remanded to police custody after being produced before a district court on Tuesday. Police are now interrogating the accused in this connection.
The crime took place at Chinsurah in Hooghly on last Saturday morning. The local residents found the bodies of the victims lying on the bed at their residence at Rabindranagar area. The incident had triggered tension in the locality after it came to light. The local residents alleged that a quarrel broke out between the couple a few months ago after the wife came to know about the illicit love affair of her husband. Roy had married his wife Kanika Roy (34) and they had two daughters.
The accused used to live with his wife and two daughters at his house at Rabindranagar. But for the past few months, the accused had been staying with the woman with whom he had been involved in an illicit affair. The accused sometimes used to visit his house at Rabindranagar during night and used to leave the house the next morning.
The local people told the police that the accused did not send money to his family as a result which his wife had to lend money from others to run the family. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard and the investigators are trying to find out the exact cause of the murder.
