Cong, Left MLAs welcome CM's 'two-card' proposal
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's proposal of two separate cards – one for those availing the benefits of Public Distribution System (PDS) and another for those who would use it as a document for identity, received
support from Congress and
Left Front MLAs in the state Assembly.
An all-party meeting was held at Speaker Biman Banerjee's chamber in the Assembly on Friday, where the Chief Minister's proposal was welcomed by Opposition MLAs.
"There are problems with the distribution of ration cards in some areas. I am thankful to the government for taking it up seriously and giving a hearing to all parties so that the problem can be solved," said Congress MLA Nepal Mahato after the meeting.
State Food and Supplies minister Jyotipriya Mallick said that camps will be held across the state from September 9 to 27. The BDO office, SDO office, municipal corporations and borough offices in the city will host such camps to fast-track the process of distribution of ration cards.
"I have appealed to all MLAs irrespective of their
parties to help in smooth conductance of the exercise," he said.
It may be mentioned that Banerjee on Wednesday had directed Mallick to convene an all-party meeting to take their suggestions in this matter.
