Family members of Sunil Pandey, who died at Medica Superspecialty Hospital on Monday of alleged negligence and wrong treatment, have lodged a written complaint with the state health department against the hospital authorities on Tuesday.
The victim's post-mortem report stated that the doctors at the private hospital did not implant a stent in his body, for which his family was charged around Rs 53,000. It stated that an operation was conducted on the thorax of the patient, which suggests that there was an attempt to conduct bypass surgery on the patient, without a stent being implanted.
Police have started an inquiry into the incident. While his family members have submitted documents containing details of Pandey's treatment to the health department, they are also looking forward to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this regard.
"We are shocked after the post-mortem report was given to us. We will fight till we get justice. We will also meet the Chief Minister and seek her help so that action can be taken against the ones found guilty," said Sujata Pandey, widow of the victim. His family members raised questions on how Pandey's leg was amputated and what had prompted the doctors to do so. Following this, the hospital authorities claimed that the doctors had to amputate his patient's leg as there was a major blood clot in it. A senior official of the state health department said a probe would be conducted into the alleged negligence that might have caused the patient's death. Pandey was admitted to the hospital on the March 6 with chest pain and underwent multiple surgeries, including a leg amputation. He was declared dead on Monday. His relatives alleged that their patient's condition drastically deteriorated after the surgeries and the patient died of wrong treatment. A family member of the victim, who went to Swasthya Bhawan, said they have registered a complaint with the Principal Secretary, Director of health services and other senior officials of the department.

Although, the hospital authorities claim that a videography was conducted, that was handed over to the patient's relatives on March 6, the post-mortem report suggests otherwise.
