Coal scam: CID summons BJP's Jitendra Tiwary

KOLKATA: CID has summoned BJP leader Jitendra Tiwary in connection with the coal smuggling case investigation.

Tiwary has been asked to appear before the investigating officer at Bhabani Bhaban on Friday.

Apart from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), CID is also investigating alleged coal smuggling from the Asansol, Ranigunj and Kulti areas. Sources informed that Tiwary has been summoned as a witness.

Tiwary was the Mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation and later became the Chairman of Board of Administrator till 2020. In 2021 he left Trinamool Congress and joined BJP. Tiwary was also the MLA of Pandaveswar from 2016 till 2021.
