CM visits Tarapith, takes stock of development work
Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Kali temple at Tarapith and offered puja and bhog on Thursday morning. She was accompanied by state Agriculture minister Ashis Banerjee.
Later, she took stock of the work being carried out in the temple town. Following her initiative, Tarapith Rampurhat Development Authority (TRDA) was set up in March 2015. The sole purpose behind formation of the authority was to upgrade Tarapith into a world class centre for religious tourism. Thousands of people from across the country and the globe visit Tarapith every year. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, people come to the temple to offer pujas. As there is shortage of accommodation, the state government has set up rooms for the tourists.
The state government has set up guest houses at Kankalitala, where pilgrims come to offer puja on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
The TRDA consists of 75 moujas from Rampurhat and Morgram police station, including Rampurhat Municipality.
A multiplex is being constructed under the Karmakhetra project to accommodate roadside shopkeepers. A clock tower will come up at Rampurhat Panchmati More.
A swimming pool is being constructed at Girish Park. An eco park is coming up close to the temple as well. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the work for the same being carried out in full swing.
The state government has also upgraded the shashan (crematorium) where tantriks and bhairabis come for religious practices and meditation. The rooms where the tantriks stay have been renovated and beautification surrounding the shashan has been carried out.
