CM rescues girl, asks Mayor to ensure proper medical care

Kolkata: In a humanitarian gesture, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday rescued an injured woman and sent her to a nearby hospital.

The Chief Minister turns a good samaritan for a 20-year-old girl who suffered injuries after on Durgapur bridge. The victim has been identified as Subhra Das, a resident of Dasnagar Howrah. When the Chief Minister was returning after inaugurating the Suruchi Sangha Puja, she noticed the injured the girl lying on Durgapur Bridge.

She instructed the officials to stop her convoy. She got down from her car and stepped up to the girl and inquired about her health condition.

She instructed the officials who were accompanying her to immediately shift her to a hospital. She also instructed the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim to take necessary steps to ensure that the injured girl can be given immediate attention. Hakim was also in Banerjee's convoy at the time of the incident.

After being instructed by the Chief Minister, the officials took the victim to a nearby private hospital.

She has been undergoing treatment there. It is assumed that the girl might have fallen while boarding a bus. The exact reason behind her injuries is yet to be confirmed by the police. The police have also started a probe into the incident.

It may be mentioned here that this is not for the first time that Banerjee came forward to rescue an injured victim. On earlier occasions also she rescued for a few injured persons. It was Banerjee who started 'Safe Drive, Save Life' campaign to spread awareness campaign among the commuters and driver alike.

The main purpose of the move was to reduce the road accidents in the state.

During her administrative meetings in the districts she instructed the government officials to identify the black spots which are essentially accident prone. She also stressed the necessity of involving the local people in order to transport an injured person to the hospital in minimum possible time.
