CM launches helipad at Dumurjola, reaches Kgp in copter

In a bid to improve the air-connectivity in the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday inaugurated the newly-constructed helipad at Dumurjola in Howrah.

She went to Kharagpur in a helicopter from Dumurjola after the inauguration programme. As many as 26 government helipads have been constructed at the headquarters of each district and other important places.

Banerjee maintained that the construction of the helipads will improve the air-connectivity in the state and it will be helpful for many. She said such helipads will also be constructed in other important areas of the districts.

The construction work of 24 helipads is complete and these include Basirhat, Shantiniketan, Cooch Behar, Bankura, Digha, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Midinapore, Behala, Jaigaon, Dumurjola, Chalsha, Balurghat, Canning, Malda, Behrampore, Krishnanagar, Charrah, Jhargram, Haldia, Arambagh, Chinsurah, Bongaon and Sagar.

The work to complete the construction of helipads at Mukutmanipur and Falakata is going on and the step has been taken to complete the task as early as possible.

Helicopters of VVIPs including the President and the Prime Minister used to land at the RCTC helipad. With construction of the infrastructure at Dumurjola, the helipad can also be used for landing of VVIP helicopters.

The steps to construct the helipads were taken up after the change of guard in the state to ensure air-connectivity in each and every district. It may be mentioned that helicopter services were started between different points from Kolkata including one from the city to the favourite seaside tourist spot in the state, Digha.

The service had given a boost to the state's tourism industry.

At the same time, the helicopter services have also improved connectivity between the city and North Bengal.

People who need to rush to the city with patients for treatment can also avail the services.
