CM irked by lackadaisical attitude of officials in Purulia

Some officials of Purulia district administration did not cooperate with the District Magistrate and inquiry would be conducted against the accused. The state government will take stern action if they are found guilty, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.

Alokesh Prasad Roy, who was the commissioner of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation was appointed the new District Magistrate. During the meeting, the Chief Minister found that most of the work had not been carried out properly. The state Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee and Home Secretary Moloy De were present in the meeting. "First they (district administration) must complete the works for the district and then I will come again. But I will keep monitoring," she added.

This is for the first time since Banerjee started taking administrative meeting in the districts after coming to power in 2011,that she became visibly annoyed with the poor performance of the district administration. She did not hide her feelings and instructed the officials to work seriously.

She was not at all happy the way midday meal was being supplied. "Take the matter seriously. I will not tolerate any slackness," she told the officials in the meeting.

"I do not like any laxity in development work relating to the people. The (Purulia) district administration has failed to fulfill the job they were entrusted with. I take a strong stand in such cases. I do not do anything secretly," Banerjee told reporters after coming out of the meeting.
