Class XII student killed in mysterious fire at Kasba

Kolkata: A student of class XII reportedly burnt to death mysteriously at a residential building in Kasba. Locals saw smoke coming out of a window and rushed in to find the youth unconscious. He was declared brought dead by the doctors at M R Bangur Hospital.

According to sources, the deceased used to live at the ground floor of a four-storied building located on N K Ghosh Road at Kasba. On Wednesday morning at around 9:10 am, locals saw smoke coming out of the ground floor of that building. They also heard the youth screaming for help, before his voice stopping suddenly.

Meanwhile, locals started spraying and pouring water on the fire. The fire brigade and police were also informed. Though a fire tender reached the spot quickly, the locals had already doused the flames and rushed the youth to M R Bangur Hospital.

Sources informed that an injury mark could be noticed on his back but not of a magnitude to be a cause for his death. It is suspected that he probably died due to asphyxiation with smoke going into his lungs. The actual cause of death can be ascertained only after the autopsy examination.

Police are also checking to know how the fire occurred. Sleuths also came to know that the doors were open but still he was not able to get out. Question thus arose as to why he collapsed there. Forensic experts will visit the house soon to find answers.
