Class X student roughed up by armed men

Armed miscreants attacked a Class X student at Malda's Sahapur on Thursday night over possession of a bicycle. The student was critically injured after the incident and had to be hospitalised.

Bubai Mondal (16) received injuries on his head and back. The miscreants used wickets to hit his head and slashed his back with a sickle. He was lying in a pool of blood on the road till the villagers spotted him there.

The villagers took the victim to Malda Medical College and Hospital. Police said that his condition was grave and had to undergo a surgery.

Paresh Mondal, the father of the victim lodged a complaint against the unknown miscreants in a local police station. "My son is a good student. He was never involved in any tiff with anybody. I do not know who has attacked my son. All I know is that some people tried to snatch his bicycle from him. He tried to stop them but the people overpowered my son. They hurt him with wickets and a sickle," said the victim's father.

Meanwhile, the cops detained a person. The investigators suspected that the person might be involved in the incident. Bubai was attacked by at least 11-12 miscreants. Police primarily suspected that they were some local criminals who tried to snatch the bicycle.

The villagers, however, proposed to convene a kangaroo court to discuss the issue. This incident of attack on the Class X student should not be taken lightly, opined the villagers.
