Class IX girl attempts suicide in New Town

Kolkata: A class IX girl attempted suicide by setting herself on fire in her house at Gouranganagar in New Town on Tuesday morning.
Police said the girl locked herself in a room of their house when her parents were busy in their household work and set herself on fire.
Her family members found smoke billowing out of a window of the room and started crying for help. Locals went to the spot and broke open the door.
They put out the fire in the room and found the girl lying unconscious on the floor with severe burn injuries all over her body.
She was admitted to a hospital where she is still fighting for her life. Doctors in the hospital have taken necessary steps so that she can be cured.
Police have initiated a probe in this connection but are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident.
Police also spoke to the locals and came to know that the girl hardly used to come out of her house apart from the time when she used to go to school or private tuition. They also informed police about the girl being an introvert and hardly shared her problems with any of her family members or friends.
Police have also checked the room where the incident took place to find if she had written her problems on any piece of paper. They spoke to some of her friends but they too failed to give any clue to the police.
The investigating officers also tried to know whether she was scolded by any of her family members but they haven't found anything as such. Cops are yet to speak to the victim as she is under treatment.
