City to receive more rain for two days, waterlogging woes continue in parts
Kolkata: Four South Bengal districts will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while some others may witness moderate rain, the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore predicted on Monday.
According to the weather experts, some North Bengal districts may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts, due to the formation of a fresh low pressure area over North Odisha and adjoining Bengal.
The city may receive light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours, accompanied with strong wind. According to the weather office prediction, the districts like North and South 24-Parganas, Murshidabad and Nadia will witness heavy rainfall. It may be mentioned here that North Eastern states are expected to see moderate rains in the next few days. Jharkhand, some parts of Bihar and Sikkim may also see light to moderate rain, weather experts said. According to a senior weather official, the low pressure area over North Odisha and adjoining parts of Bengal gained strength, bringing more rainfall in the state. The situation is expected to continue for the next two days, following which it may stop raining, an official said.
Meanwhile, the overnight rainfall in various parts of the city and adjoining districts caused due to the impact of the low pressure led to inundation in various parts. People faced difficulties on Monday morning while going to their workplaces in some areas. Several stretches of Pratapgarh, Silpara in Behala, Patuli and several other parts became waterlogged in the morning.
According to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Kamdhari received 109 mm rainfall, the highest in the city. Topsia recorded 84 mm rainfall, while Jodhpur Park and Kalighat saw 74 and 71.2 mm respectively.
Mayor Sovan Chatterjee has assured that accumulated water in various parts, including Behala, has been cleared with the help of additional pumps.
