City likely to get rainfall in a few days but no respite from heat

The city is likely to get another rainfall within two-three days as the weather conditions are ideal for such squalls, the meteorologists indicated.

Kolkata will receive light rainfall which will might bring a pleasant respite as the weather conditions post sunset over the city will become better, however, the meteorologists are not that hopeful.

"In the month of April, Kolkata usually receives about 60 mm of pre-Monsoon rainfall. But with very few rainy days in this month, the chances of rainfall reaching the average figure are very low. Till date, Kolkata has received around 5 mm rainfall," said a weatherman.

"The recent rainfall of 4.4 mm has already helped the temperatures in the city to drop a bit. More rainfall is expected in coming days, temperatures are likely to be below normal for the time being but this doesn't mean an invitation of pleasant weather. The city will continue with hot and sultry daytime weather," predicted Skymet weather, a private weather forecast agency.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, indicated that this rainfall over Kolkata can be attributed to the trough which is travelling from North Bihar to North Bay of Bengal.

"Along with Kolkata, many districts of West Bengal like East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan and many areas may get light rainfall thanks to this trough. Many areas of North Bihar may get light rainfall at many places," another meteorologist said.

It may be recalled that the RMC Kolkata had indicated heavy rainfall accompanied by squalls on Monday and Tuesday evening due to nor'wester. But nothing as such took place till Tuesday night.

"The latest Radar Observation had indicated that thunderstorm was likely to affect some parts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapur districts of West Bengal. But it did not happen," said a senior official at RMC Kolkata.
