CID clips wings of GCLO, arrests chief, three members

Kolkata: In a major breakthrough, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested four key activists of the newly formed terrorist organisation Greater Cooch Behar Liberation Organisation (GCLO).

The arrest came on Saturday night, when the CID officers used a decoy and invited them for a meeting near Roy Para at Naxalbari.

Nirmal Roy, who is a resident of Agomani near Dhubri in Assam, claimed himself to be the chief of GCLO. Nirmal was arrested along with Kandarpa Das (23), a resident of Ghogapar in Baksa district of Assam, Ratan Adhikary (28), a resident of Khagrabari in Cooch Behar and Dipi Prasad Roy (18) of Netajipara in Dhupguri.

The CID officers had been maintaining a vigil since Nirmal had posted a video on a social networking site, announcing the formation of the terrorist organisation, of which he was the chief.

Being the chief of the organisation, Nirmal had declared a bandh on July 31 and had also threatened of carrying out bomb blasts on railway tracks and government offices.

The investigating officers are considering it to be a major arrest, as it has happened when the organisation was formed just a few days ago. It will also help the CID officers to know if Nirmal and the other members of GCLO had connection with any other terrorist organisations.

The investigating officers are also trying to know about other members of the group and how many they have managed to bring into their organisation so far. The police wanted to know about their sympathisers as well.
