Chhath Puja: Cops make elaborate arrangements

Kolkata: The city police have made elaborate traffic arrangements to ensure that devotees can safely reach the ghats of river Hooghly to perform their rituals on the day of Chhath Puja.
Movement of non-motorised vehicles will be temporarily suspended on all the arterial roads including Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Government Place East, Gostha Pal Sarani, Government Place West, Kshudiram Bose Road, Strand Road, Nimtala Ghat Street, Bagbazar Street, Mullick Ghat Street, Jagannath Ghat Street, Dai Ghat, Beadon Street, Strand Bank Road, B K Paul Avenue, Ahiritala Street, Sovabazar Street and G S Bose Road. There will be restriction of plying of goods vehicles in and around Victoria Memorial Hall that is on a stretch of AJC Bose Road between D L Khan Road to Cathedral Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, Cathedral Road, Casuarina Avenue and Lovers Lane. Similarly, plying of goods vehicles apart from those of Chhath Puja will remain restricted in the city from 12 noon to 10 pm on October 26 and from 3 am to 10 am
on October 27. Special arrangements have been made for parking. Parking of vehicles will be not be allowed from 12 noon to 8 pm on October 26 and again from 3 am to 10 am on October 27 on thoroughfares including Dufferin Road, Beadon Street, Esplanade Row West, Esplanade Row East, Mayo Road, Kingsway, Auckland Road, Kidderpore Road and Nimtala Ghat Street.
