Charred body of school teacher found

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a middle-aged school teacher whose charred body was found inside his residence at Mayureswar in Birbhum on Sunday night.

Two sisters of the victim were also found lying unconscious inside the house with injury marks on their wrists.

Locals took all three of them to hospital where the sisters are admitted. However, the school teacher, Brindaban Mondal, was declared brought dead and the body was sent for an autopsy. A police officer said locals found smoke billowing out of the house and went to find whether anything has gone wrong.

They found the main gate of the house locked from inside and peeped inside through a window only to find the charred body of Brindaban and his sisters lying unconscious.

Police have initiated a probe in this connection and came to know after speaking to the victim's sisters that he was depressed for the past few days and his behaviour was not normal.

Cops also came to know after speaking to the victim's neighbours that they used indulge in fights. There was heated exchange of words on Sunday morning as well.

Police suspect that dispute over property might have led to the problems and is the same reason behind frequent quarrels. Though police are yet to ascertain how the incident took place, the investigating officers are suspecting that the sisters might have attempted suicide after setting Brindaban on fire. Locals allege that his sisters were also disappointed as their brother had not taken any step towards marriage.
