Kolkata: Police have filed a chargesheet at a city court, in connection with the GD Birla Education Centre incident, in which a four-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted sexually by two teachers.
Two teachers of the private school in Ranikuthi had abused the victim, who was admitted to SSKM Hospital. The police have arrested the two accused, after the victim identified them when a photograph was shown to her.
The investigators on Wednesday filed the charge-sheet at Alipore Court against the two teachers - Abhiesk Roy and Md Mafizul, who have been booked under section 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act.
Police have recorded statements of around 27 people in this connection so far. The chargesheet has been filed within 90 days since the incident took place. The court may hear the bail plea of the accused on Friday.
It may be mentioned here that the state Education minister Partha Chatterjee had said after the incident, that stringent action would be taken against the accused, who had committed such a heinous crime. West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) had also carried out an enquiry into the matter.
The victim girl had fallen ill following the incident and informed the matter to her mother, who initially thought that there might have been some sort of infection and took her to a local doctor. However, immediately after examining the child, the doctor suspected that she might have been sexually assaulted.
A complaint was accordingly lodged at Jadavpur police station, on the basis of which they started a probe. They arrested the accused later, on charges of assaulting the school girl.
A three-member medical team comprising doctors from gynaecology, paediatrics and forensic medicine departments, had said after a medical test that there were evidences that the victim had been sexually assaulted by the two teachers.
The minor's uniform had also been tested in a forensic lab, which also corroborated the view of the doctors. MPOST
