CESC to take up power distribution duties in Malegaon

Kolkata: The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) has been selected as the power distribution franchise by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to distribute power in the Malegaon municipal area.

On Monday, chairman of CESC Sanjiv Goenka informed that soon CESC will take over the distribution operations in Malegaon. MSEDCL has already issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) which has been accepted by CESC on January 2.

According to CESC officials, its power distribution operations are spread over Bengal, greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Kota, Bharatpur

and Bikaner in Rajasthan at present.

CESC informed that soon the distribution operations will be handed over to them. Before that, some legal procedures will have to be followed.

CESC will also check about the machineries installed at present. The old machineries may be replaced with new ones. CESC will upgrade the distribution system using modern technology and will have to invest a good amount of money to upgrade the system.

Primarily, it is assumed

that around Rs 300 crore may be invested for the same. According to sources, it is expected that CESC will take charge of the electricity distribution system by summer this year.

On Monday, Goenka said: "we are very happy to have the distribution franchise in a state like Maharashtra and we look forward to utilising our vast experience in serving the growing number of citizens of Malegaon."
