CCTV coverage to widen in state-run hospitals

Kolkata: The state government has taken an initiative to install more CCTV cameras in state-run hospitals in Bengal. The step has been taken to improve security arrangement in hospitals and the safety of people visiting there.

According to the sources in the state secretariat, there have often been complaints about trouble at hospitals for various reasons, leading to ransacking of property. In such situations, the need of better surveillance system is felt.

At present, the state government has decided to install another 1,440 CCTV cameras in different state-run hospitals and medical colleges.

Initially, they will be set up in the hospitals where there are records of frequent incidents. CCTV coverage in all state-run hospitals will be increased in phases.

Around 212 CCTV cameras will be installed at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital, 248 CCTV cameras will be set up in Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital and 112 cameras will be installed at BC Roy Memorial Hospital.

Around 56 CCTV cameras will be installed in Bankura Medical College and the same number of cameras will also be installed in Suri Medical College. 28 cameras will be installed in Rampurhat Medical College and 140 of the same will be set up in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

At the same time, 64 more CCTV cameras will be installed at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. The same number of surveillance cameras will be installed in SSKM Hospital and School of Tropical Medicine as well. 48 CCTV cameras will be installed at NRS Medical College and Hospital.
