CBI summons 4 top cops to check on findings in Saradha scam case
Kolkata: In a bid to know their findings in connection with the chit fund cases, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has urged four senior IPS officers, including Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, to turn up at their office.
It may be recalled that a Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising around 10 senior police officers, was set up to probe the chit fund cases after the Saradha Group scam came to light in 2013.
A gazette notification was issued by the then Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee, in connection with the formation of the SIT. Kumar, who was then the commissioner of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, was in the SIT. Vinit Goyal, who was then the Inspector General of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Pallav Kanti Ghosh, the then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) of Kolkata Police, have also been urged to visit the office of the central investigating agency. Another IPS officer Tamal Basu has also been asked to turn up.
It may be mentioned that the first complaint in connection with the Saradha Group scam was lodged with the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
The SIT had initiated the probe in this connection and the officers of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate had arrested the Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen from Kashmir.
Later, the CBI had taken over the case following an order of the Supreme Court. The central investigating agency had earlier questioned many people in connection with the chit fund cases and now wants to know what the members of the SIT had found in their investigation earlier.
