CBI collects voice samples of 12 political leaders

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) collected voice samples of 12 political leaders from a national news channel in connection with Narada sting operation.
The central investigating agency had started summoning the leaders for verifying the statement given by Narada News CEO Mathew Samuel in connection with the sting operation.
At the same time, the investigating officers felt the necessity of voice samples to find out whether it is the voice of the same person that has being heard in the video footages of the sting operation.
After taking the statement of MP Sultan Ahmed and deputy Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Iqbal Ahmed, the CBI officers had asked them to provide their voice samples.
The CBI officers then decided to collect the same from the national news channel as they have the video clippings of the leaders taking oath as MP, MLA or minister. A CBI officer said that they have decided to collect the voice samples from the news channel considering it to be the easiest way of getting the same.
On April 17, the CBI had lodged an FIR against 12 leaders, who are sitting MPs and MLAs, former MLA, a former minister and a senior IPS officer in this
connection for alleged criminal conspiracy under Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Corruption Act.
