CBI arrests former Railway official in fraud case

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the then Inspector of Works of South Eastern Railway of Bhubaneswar, who was at large for the past nine years, from DRM Chowpathy in Alipurduar on Friday.
The central investigating agency arrested the accused, Alok Ghosh, in connection with a case where he was allegedly involved with some others in "misappropriation of steel rods, cement bags, etc". It has led to a loss of Rs 27.35 lakh to the South Eastern Railways (SER). A case was registered against him by CBI on August 20 in 1999. The investigating agency has also filed a chargesheet in this connection on January 31 in 2002.
Names of the then Inspector of Works and four others appeared on the chargesheet and he was booked on various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of criminal conspiracy (120 B IPC) and cheating (420 IPC) and section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar had issued a Non-Bailable Warrant against Alok on July 15 in 2008. The CBI officers had been in search for the accused and despite desperate efforts he had managed to flee quite a nunber of times when raids were conducted by the investigating officers.
Alok will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar.
