Carcass meat supply suspected

Kolkata: A section of the locals damaged a car suspecting that carcass meat was being delivered in the same at Deganga in North 24-Parganas.

The locals claimed that they were told food for fish for the purpose of pisciculture used to get prepared at a place enclosed with tin sheets at Khudra Mondalganti area in Deganga. But they alleged that packaging of carcass meat used to take place there.

A car was found and it is suspected that carcass meat was getting supplied in it. The irate mob has damaged the vehicle. Policemen went to the spot and detained one person who was in the car. A probe has been initiated.

A raging controversy was witnessed few months back when a racket was busted that involved supply of rotten meat in the city and neighbouring areas after processing the flesh of carcasses collected from dumping grounds. The impact was such that customers had shunned having or buying meat altogether for months.
