Kolkata: The police added the section of criminal conspiracy (120 B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in connection with the Budge Budge incident in which carcass meat was allegedly sold in the form of packaged meat.
Earlier, the police had initiated a probe under section 272 and 273 of IPC and 59 of Food Standard Act. Now, after initial findings revealed that many stakeholders were involved in this case, the police have also added section 120B of IPC. The section has been added after the police got the necessary permission from the Alipore Court.
It may be recalled that the police have so far arrested many people in this connection and visited several places to probe the case.
During investigation the police also came to know that the meat of carcasses was also sent to many departmental stores. There are many eateries as well where the same was sold.
The police have also intensified the raid in search of Kausar Dhali, who is the owner of a chicken farm in New Town. The police had earlier arrested eight persons in connection to the incident, in which meat of carcasses was found in freezers of the chicken farm.
The police had prayed before the court to extend the custody of two of the arrested persons – Nasiruddin Gazi and Sohrab Mallick. Their remand to police custody was extended till May 4.
Sources said that the police have come to know about the shops where they used to sell the meat of carcasses and took both of them to the places for further investigation.
At the same time, the police are trying to arrest Dhali and raids have been conducted at several places in this connection.
A police officer said that they are trying to arrest him as early as possible, as he is the main person behind the entire racket and can thus verify the different aspects which have come up during the investigation in the past few days.
The police feel that they can reach the root of the racket once Dhali is arrested.
