Canning death: Abhishek removes block Trinamool Youth Congress president
Kolkata: Within 24 hours after the incident in which a Trinamool Congress worker was killed by unknown miscreants at Canning in South 24-Parganas, Paresh Das, Canning Block I president of Trinamool Youth Congress, was removed from his post.
Abhishek Banerjee, president, Trinamool Youth Congress and party MP, removed Das from his post. Mizanur Rahman, a Trinamool Congress worker, was shot dead by unknown miscreants on Sunday afternoon. The miscreants hurled bombs at a rally which was passing by the area in Canning. Rahman fell on the ground and the criminals then fired at him from a close range. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Senior police officers went to the spot and conducted raids. Four people have been arrested and two detained so far in this connection.
Local people alleged that the infighting between two groups of Trinamool Congress workers, led by Saibal Lahiri, former vice-president of South 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad and Paresh Das, took a bitter turn over the formation of the Panchayat Samitis. Local Trinamool Congress leaders reported the matter to Abhishek Banerjee, who in turn conducted an inquiry and removed Das from his post.
It may be recalled that in all the meetings of Trinamool Congress which had been attended by the party's leaders, MPs, MLAs and councillors, party chief Mamata Banerjee had made it very clear that under no circumstances was the party going to tolerate infighting.
In most of the meetings, some leaders were pulled up for their failure to stop infighting. Banerjee made it clear that those who would instigate infighting were free to leave the party.
