Café Ekante gets ready to celebrate World Cup
Kolkata: Café Ekante in New Town will organise a host of programmes to celebrate World Cup football in a befitting manner.
Subrata Bhattacharya, former member of the Indian squad and a star footballer, will inaugurate the programme on Thursday. The restaurant, named by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been decorated with flags of the participating countries, lights and jerseys to create an apt ambience. There will be a mini goalpost and the guests who can score two goals will get discount on food.
In addition to this, the guests will have mouth watering dishes that are specialties of the countries that are participating on that day.
For example, on the day when England will face its opponent, there will be fish and chips. Similarly, there will be special dishes from Brazil, Argentina, France and Germany.
The guests will be given coupons where they can write the name of the team that they think will lift World Cup 2018. If their prediction comes true, they will get 20% discount on their bill, within one month from the day of the final.
There will be a giant screen which will be put up at Café Ekante during the semi-finals and final matches.
Another giant screen will be put up at New Town Business Club during the semi-finals and final, to help the members enjoy football. The Business Club will be decorated with jerseys, lights and photos of the heroes of the World Cup.
As Café Ekante has already become a very popular restaurant
and foodies from the city gather on Saturdays and Sundays, it is expected that they will visit the restaurant to taste the special dishes that will be offered.
Getting a table on Saturdays and Sundays at the restaurant is difficult, because there is a huge rush due to the quality of food and ambience.
Though India ranks 97th in football in FIFA ranking, football fever has gripped Kolkata. Giant flags of the favourite teams have been put up in different localities. Most of the football fans support Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain.
