Bypolls for 3 Assembly seats to be held on Nov 25

Kolkata: By-election in three Assembly constituencies of Bengal will be held on November 25, according to a notification issued by the Election Commission of India on Friday.

These constituencies are Kaliagunj (SC), Karimpur and Kharagpur Sadar. The Kaliagunj (SC) seat fell vacant after Congress MLA Pramatha Nath Ray died a few months ago, while the Karimpur and Kharagpur Sadar seats fell vacant after the MLAs, namely Mahua Moitra and Dilip Ghosh, became MPs.

The last date of nomination will be November 6, while the scrutiny will be done on November 7. The last date of withdrawal of candidatures is November 11. The by-election will be held on November 25, while the result will be announced on November 28.

Congress and CPI(M) will ink an electoral alliance and field their joint candidates for the seats, while Trinamool Congress is yet to announce their candidates.

Senior Trinamool Congress leaders said work is on to select three candidates from the names which the party has received from the respective areas.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh won the Kharagpur Sadar seat by defeating veteran Congress leader Gyan

Singh Sohanpal in the 2016 Assembly election and BJP has since established its control in vast areas surrounding Kharagpur.

BJP leader Rahul Sinha said the names of the candidates will be selected in consultation with the central leadership.
