Businessman killed, wife manhandled in Belgharia

Kolkata: A businessman was shot dead at Belgharia in North 24-Parganas on Tuesday night. His wife was also beaten up badly by the miscreants.

According to sources, Sukhendu Kara, a resident of Belgharia, used to run a meat shop. His family members claimed that since the past few months, he was being threatened by some local miscreants as they demanded extortion money. One day, Kara got involved in an altercation with the miscreants when they came to take the money.

However, with intervention from the local businesspersons, the altercation ended. However, late on Tuesday night, a few miscreants went to Kara's home and banged on the door.

Kara's wife did not open the door but soon the miscreants were able to break it open and entered the house. She was beaten up badly and hearing his wife's screams when Kara came to her rescue, the miscreants allegedly beat him as well. Later, one of the miscreants took out a firearm and shot Kara in the chest.

As soon as Kara hit the floor bleeding profusely, the miscreants fled the scene. Hearing loud noises coming from the Kara household, their neighbours rushed inside and saw Kara lying on the ground. Immediately, police were informed.

Sleuths rushed Kara to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Later, the body was sent for autopsy examination. Sleuths have started a probe on charges of murder and other non-bailable offences against unknown miscreants, as Kara's wife was not able to inform police about the names of the accused persons. A search is on to nab the culprits.
