Businessman kidnap case: 2 held

Kolkata: Two hardened criminals from Bihar were recently arrested in connection with the abduction of the Kolkata-based businessman, who was rescued from Asansol on February 14.

The abductors were intercepted at a check point. According to a source, Manoj Khandelwal was a business man who had an office at Girish Park.

On February 14 morning, when Khandelwal stepped out of his office three men forced him to get into his car. Later, they allegedly forced Khandelwal's driver to move towards Maniktala.

After sometime, they stopped and forced Khandelwal to board a SUV, which was parked at a distance.

His driver later informed Khandelwal's family and lodged a complaint with the police. Allegedly, the kidnappers were trying to take him to Jharkhand.

They faced a check point near Salanpur, which is located 2.5 kilometre from Bengal-Jharkhand border. Seeing their suspicious behavior, police detained all of them and later came to know about the abduction.

Immediately, Girish Park police station was informed. A team of officers from the Girish Park police station went to Asansol and arrested the kidnappers and rescued Khandelwal.

During interrogation, sleuths came to know about two criminals named Raj Pandey and Bishnu Prasad, who were the masterminds behind the abduction case.

Allegedly Panday and Prasad were in Bihar. Based on the information, a team of Kolkata Police went to Nawada in Bihar. They were arrested few days ago from Nawada and brought to Kolkata.

Later, Kolkata police came to know that both of them were most wanted in Bihar Police's criminal list.

They used to threat business persons in Bihar to extort money from them.

They tried to abduct from Kolkata to extort huge amount of money. Sleuths are trying to find out whether they are connected with any other criminal incident in the city.

Sleuths have arrested another person from Girish Park, who is suspected to

have connection with the abduction.
