Businessman, elderly man fall to death, 'depressed' woman found hanging

Kolkata: A businessman mysteriously fell from a high-rise residential apartment and died on Friday morning in Haridevpur. After approximately an hour an elderly person also died in the same manner in Thakurpukur.

According to sources, on Friday morning, around 7:40 am, security guards of tower IV in Diamond City South Apartment, heard sound of a heavy object falling on the ground floor. When they ran to look for the source of the sound, they found a resident of the building Pramod Jalan (54) was lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to M R Bangur Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Jalan, a businessman by profession, used to live on the 8th floor of the 16-storied building.

He ran a business of ayurvedic products in New Market.

During preliminary investigation the police came to know that his wife became paralysed approximately one-and-a-half-year ago after she met with a road accident. Since then she was bedridden. After a few days of the accident, Jalan became depressed to see his wife in such a condition.

According to police, this could be a case of accident or suicide. But, it is not yet confirmed whether Jalan jumped from the balcony or accidentally fell down. Police are facing difficulties to probe the case as the CCTV camera of the said tower is out of order for more than a year. Investigators are questioning his family members in order to find clues.

On the other hand, an elderly person fell down from the top floor of a five-storied residential apartment at Dakshin Behala Road in Thakurpukur.

The person identified as Nagen Chandra Bhawal (92) was found lying in a pool of blood around 8:40 am on Friday. He was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police are probing to find whether he jumped from the top floor and committed suicide or accidentally fell down.

In another incident, a woman identified as Maya Dutta (57) was found hanging from ceiling on Thursday night at Bijoygarh in Jadavpur.

Her husband Pijush Kanti Dutta went to market around 7 pm. He came back around 8:50 pm and found the door was closed but not locked. After getting inside the room he found Maya hanging.

Police came to know that she has been suffering from several diseases since long time and was in depression.
