Buses stay off roads after vandalism act

Kolkata: At least, 50 buses were vandalised by some miscreants while they were parked at the Garia Station bus terminus late on Saturday night.

Protesting the incident, bus owners and drivers suspended services in three bus routes on Sunday.

According to sources, late on Saturday night, when the drivers and conductors were sleeping at the Garia Station bus terminus, some miscreants with black cloth tied on their faces vandalised the buses.

A few of the conductors and drivers were sleeping inside the buses as they had money with them.

Miscreants allegedly started ransacking the buses and tried attacking the drivers and conductors. To save themselves, drivers and conductors had to run from away.

As there were no further resistances, miscreants reportedly vandalised at least 50 buses Also, the money kept inside some buses was robbed.

In the morning, bus owners went to Narendrapur police station and lodged a complaint. Later, they decided to suspend services to protest the incident. As the three major bus routes from Garia Station to Bagbazar, Howrah and B B D Bag were suspended, commuters had to face trouble. But, as it was a Sunday, number of passengers was quite low. It is alleged that earlier some miscreants had demanded money from the bus owners as they used park the buses there and use the space as bus terminus. But, the land which is being used as the bus terminus, belongs to the state government.

Till Sunday night, no one was arrested.
