Bus racing claims life of 76-yr-old in Baguiati

Kolkata: Racing between two buses in the same route claimed the life of a 76-year-old woman, who was killed after being hit by a private bus at Baguiati on VIP Road on Friday afternoon. Police said the victim, Sumita Basu, was a resident of Narayantala near Baguiati.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that she was hit by a L238 bus that operates from Howrah to Barasat, when she just got down from another bus on the same route. She received severe injuries on her hand and head. She was declared brought dead when taken to a hospital. People who witnessed the accident told the police that the offending vehicle had attempted to overtake the one from which the woman had got down. The driver of the bus had managed to flee with the vehicle, soon after the accident. The police are trying to find out the bus and its driver.
