The sale of brochure for Gitabitan town in Santiniketan will begin from July 25.
This was decided at a meeting held between Firhad Hakim, state Urban Development minister and senior officials of Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO).
In the first phase, around 84 plots will be distributed through lottery. The sizes of the plots are 2.5 cottah, 4 cottah and 6 cottah. Indian Bank will be the banker.
The township named by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is coming up on a plot of 100 acre. It is situated close to the proposed Biswa Bangla Viswa Vidyalaya. The allottees will get the sanctioned plan.
HIDCO will construct three model houses including the interior so that interested persons can have an idea of the proposed duplex type residences.
The houses will have a kitchen and dining room on the ground floor and bedrooms with attached toilets on the first floor. There will also be a small open land infront of the houses. There will be a cluster of shops where the owners can stay on the first floor. The landscape will be made keeping in mind the culture and heritage of Santiniketan.
Four more townships will come up in West Burdwan, Howrah, South 24 Parganas and in North Bengal respectively. Land for the proposed townships have been allotted. The state government has prepared a township policy where private players will have to buy the plots through e-auction. The state government will construct all the necessary utilities like water supply, power and sewer connections up to the boundary wall of the townships.
As Gitabitan is quite near to Kolkata and keeping in mind the demand to set up houses in Santiniketan which is fast coming up as a weekend destination, state government officials feel that all the plots will be sold off.
The date of lottery of the plots will be announced later. There will be absolute transparency in the allotment process.
