Bratya Basu releases brochures for EMCs at Falta, Kalyani

Kolkata: Considering the huge employment potential in hardware and electronics sector across the globe with the emergence of Automated Vehicle, Robotics and Internet of Things (IOT), the state Information Technology and Electronics (IT& E) department is all poised to take a leading role in the country.

"We are coming up with two Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) at Kalyani and Falta that will be made ready in a year. Our hardware park at Sonarpur is already complete.

Hence, we are leaving no stone unturned to bring the best in the IT industry in these places," state IT & E minister Bratya Basu said speaking at a knowledge sharing workshop on "Embedded Technology" at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Friday. The minister also unveiled the brochures for the two proposed EMC's and that of the Sonarpur IT park at the event. The Sonarpur hardware park on a 107-acre land has plug and play infrastructure with uninterrupted power supply, round the clock potable filtered water and top class drainage and water supply system.

The EMC at Falta will come up on a 58-acre of land and the one in Naihati will be located on a 70-acre land both owned by the state government. "We have 12 existing IT parks across the state and the third floor in each of these parks is marked for electronics," state Additional Chief Secretary IT & E Debashis Sen said.

Sen, who is also the chairman of West Bengal Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) is also mulling with the idea of using embedded technology and robotics for managing the elderly population in New Town-Rajarhat area. A number of speakers at the event deliberated and made presentation on how effectively emerging technologies can help in safety and security of the aged population and also in giving him companionship.

Hidco will be soon coming up with a habitat for senior citizens Snehodiya located just opposite to the Senior citizens Park at Action Area-I of New Town. The habitat will have a G + 10 main building and a two-storied guest house. "We are trying to bring in the most advanced technology for elderly care and companionship for them. It may take time but we are moving towards this direction," Sen said.
