In a tragic incident, a Madhyamik examinee was killed and two others severely injured in a road accident in which the victim's motorbike collided head-on with a lorry at Pandua in Hooghly on Thursday.
Police said all the three Madhyamik examinees were travelling on the ill-fated two-wheeler. The rider of the motorbike, Janbaz Ansar, was a student of Sashi Bhushan High School, while the two girls riding pillion were students of Radharani High School.
The three were neighbours and Janbaz's examination centre was situated close to that of the girls. Thus, everyday, he used to give them a ride on his motorbike.
On Thursday, the three were delayed and Janbaz was riding the bike at a high speed to reach the exam centre. None of them, however, were wearing helmets.
The accident occurred at Arti More near Tinnar in Pandua. A heavily-loaded truck suddenly approached from the opposite direction when Janbaz was taking a sharp turn on his bike at a high speed.
The truck driver lost control of his vehicle after suddenly finding the two-wheeler in front of him and hit it.
All three received severe injuries and on-duty civic volunteers at the spot took them to a nearby hospital. Janbaz was declared brought dead, while the girls are fighting for their lives. A police officer said that doctors at the hospital suspect that Janbaz died due to severe head injuries.
The incident led to severe traffic congestion in the area. Senior police officers went to the spot to control the situation. Local people demanded posting of some policemen at the spot to maintain traffic.
