Body of youth found in Barasat, one held
Kolkata: The body of a youth was found at North Aswinipally in Barasat, on Tuesday morning. Seeing the body, local residents informed Barasat police station. Later, police arrested one of the deceased's acquaintances for allegedly murdering the youth.
Police sources informed that on Tuesday morning at around 5 am, some morning walkers noticed a body lying on the roadside with the face caved-in. A bicycle and a brick with blood stains on it were also found beside the body.
Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body. Later, it was found that the deceased, identified as Mithun Das (35), used to live in the same area where his body was found.
While investigating the matter, sleuths came to know that he had some monetary transactions with some of his friends. After that, police detained some of Mithun's friends.
During interrogation, one Uttam Kumar Das broke down and admitted that he had murdered Mithun over a monetary dispute.
Late on Monday night at around 1 am, he had called up Mithun on his mobile phone and asked him to meet at the spot where his body was found. When Mithun came, an altercation took place between them and Uttam hit him on his head with a brick.
Later, Uttam smashed his face as he wanted to hide the deceased's identification. Sleuths are also checking to know if Uttam has any previous criminal record. He will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) Court, Barasat, on Wednesday.
