Body of woman found in sack at Anandapur identified
Kolkata: The sleuths have been able to identify the woman whose body was found inside a sack near the West Chowbhaga pumping station under Anandapur police station area on Thursday morning.
The woman, Archana Palongdar, a resident of Muchibazar in Ultadanga was missing since Wednesday and a missing complaint was lodged with Ultadanga police station on Thursday hours before the body was recovered.
"Prima facie it appears that the woman was strangulated and her body was dumped there. The body was inside a sack, wrapped in a black coloured blanket," an officer of the homicide section of the detective department said.
The woman's husband, who identified the body at NRS morgue, broke down in tears.
"She left her house on Wednesday saying she was going to repair her cellphone. We searched for her frantically in all probable places but could not find her." he said.
He claims to be in complete darkness about what led to the murder of his wife.
The photograph of the deceased was circulated in all police stations under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police and its adjoining police stations for ascertaining her identity as quick as possible.
She was identified on the basis of the missing diary that was lodged with Ultadanga police station on Thursday. The identity was confirmed by her family members.
"We are grilling the workers deployed at the pumping station to know whether they have any idea about how the body reached there. The pumping station has security guards deployed round the clock there," an officer of Anandapur police station said.
