Body of woman found at in-laws' residence
Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found inside her in-laws house, while her injured husband is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the woman's brother-in-law might have stabbed the woman over some issue and his elder brother was injured when he tried to save his wife from the clutches of his younger brother.
The victim has been identified as Jyotsna Gayen (46). The incident triggered tension in Daspur area in West Midnapore on Thursday night.
Locals told the police that they heard screams of the woman and rushed to the spot, only to find the brother fleeing the spot. They found the woman with critical injuries in her abdomen.
She was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced brought dead. The victim's husband Harisadhan Gayen, who also sustained injuries, is stated to be in a serious condition.
He has been undergoing treatment in Ghatal Sub-divisional hospital.
According to the investigation, police suspect that the incident might have happened due to a quarrel over property issues.
The accused, Sushil Gayen was absconding but police finally arrested the accused on Friday. He has been interrogated in this connection so far. He was remanded to police custody after being produced before a court.
