Body of housewife found at in-laws' residence, husband absconding
Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found at her in-laws' house in South 24-Pargana's Canning.
The family members of the victim alleged that she was murdered. On the basis of a specific complaint lodged by her family members, South 24-Parganas police have started a probe and they are conducting raids to nab her husband who has been absconding since the incident took place on Saturday night. The incident occurred at Purba Boyarsing village under Canning police station.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim, Mampi Mondal (26), was strangled to death. Her family members were informed on Saturday evening about the woman's health condition. When the victim's family members reached her house, they found her lying on the floor. She had ligature marks around her neck.
The victim had been staying in the house with her husband Raju Mondal. She was declared brought dead after being taken to a nearby hospital on Saturday night. Police reached the spot and started a probe. The body has been sent for an autopsy.
The woman's family members also told police that she had been tortured both physically and mentally by her husband since her marriage around two years ago.
She got married to Mondal, who allegedly tortured her for dowry. Victim's family members also alleged that the accused husband tried to set her on fire a few months back. Following the incident, her family members went to her in-laws' house but her husband humiliated them and forced them to leave.
The family members of the victim lodged a complaint against her husband at the local police station on the basis of which police have initiated a probe. The investigating officers are waiting for the post-mortem report that will throw some light on her death. Police are also interrogating locals in this connection. They are yet to confirm the exact reason behind her death.
