Body of housewife found at in-laws' residence
Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found inside her in-laws' house at Haldia in East Midnapore on Tuesday morning.
The incident triggered tension among locals on Tuesday morning. The locals found the victim hanging from the ceiling. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced brought dead. After being informed police reached the hospital and sent the body for an autopsy.
The victim has been identified as Anu Begum (20). Police have started a case of unnatural death. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that someone might have hanged the woman. The family members of the victim also lodged a specific complaint in this regard.
She got married to one Seikh Saddam of Debhog village in Haldia four years ago. He is a contractual worker at Haldia municipality. Police came to know in the investigation that the couple got married without the consent of her in-laws.
The locals told police she was subjected to both mental and physical torture at her in-laws' house. Her husband used to pressurize her for money.
The family members of the victim on Tuesday morning received a phone call saying she was admitted to the hospital. When they reached the hospital the authorities told them that the victim was declared brought dead at the hospital. They alleged that the victim's husband might have killed the woman as she failed to pay the amount he had demanded.
The victim's mother, Nazma Bibi told police her son-in-law had asked for a huge amount of money to start a new business. As she failed to do so, he might have hatched a plot to carry out her murder. Police have started a detailed probe in this regard.
