BMC steps up anti-larvae drives as monsoon prep
Kolkata: Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up anti-larvae drives in Salt Lake and Rajarhat, in view of monsoon.
Pranay Roy, Member, Mayor-in-Council (Health), held series of meetings with senior officials and prepared a roadmap which will be followed to conduct the anti-larvae drives.
BMC has 27 wards in Rajarhat and its adjoining areas and 14 wards in Salt Lake. It has been carrying out anti-larvae drives from January, following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's instruction. Banerjee has asked all the civic bodies to conduct anti-larvae drives seriously.
Roy said with the onset of monsoon, special emphasis will be laid on removal of garbage. Also, the accumulated water from potholes and craters will be cleaned regularly. The BMC has also engaged an entomologist. It has clinics where people can go and get their blood tested.
Roy said to make the drives successful, cooperation of local people is required. Local people have been asked to clean the containers where water is stored at least once a week.
The ducts of air conditioners should be cleaned, along with the trays of refrigerators. The civic body also asked people to clear flower vases once a week.
He said intense campaign will be launched for foolproof launching of the drives. "Cooperation of the civic bodies and local residents is required to make the anti-larvae drives a success," he said. Drives have also been carried out in Rajarhat, where garbage has been removed from the vats.
