Kolkata: The health wing of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday closed a dhaba for running the kitchen in an unhygienic condition.
The raid was conducted by Pranay Roy, member, mayor-in-council (health) along with BMC's health officer, district nodal officer and senior officials of the health department of the civic body.
The dhaba situated close to City Centre I was being run for quite some time without any valid license. Roy said the food was being prepared in absolutely unhygienic condition. The team spotted stray dogs inside the kitchen. The BMC team collected samples and send them for analysis.
Roy said the dhaba authorities could not show valid documents.
They have been asked to see the health department officials with documents and they will only be allowed to run the restaurant if they are ready to follow the norms of BMC's health department.
Roy said the health department has prepared some norms, which restaurant owners need to follow. The kitchen should be hygienic and the vegetables, chicken or meat should be fresh.
It was learnt that the restaurant was set up in a building constructed illegally.
The space that has been used to set up the dhaba is shown as a garage space in the original plan. It was learnt that the owner was using health license issued by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
The health wing of BMC raided two more restaurants on Tuesday and collected food samples, which were later sent for analysis.
On Monday, raids were conducted at three restaurants.
Meanwhile, Suri Municipality on Tuesday seized 1.5 kg stale and rotten meat from a restaurant.
Following state government's instructions, raids have been conducted at hotel and restaurants all
over the state.
