BMC finds mosquito larvae inside Swastha Bhavan campus

Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Wednesday found mosquito larvae inside the campus of Swastha Bhavan.
The anti-larvae drive was led by Pranay Roy, member, Mayor-in-Council (Health). It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said over and again to keep the premises of the state government establishments clean and asked all the civic authorities to carry out anti-larvae drives seriously.
During the drive, it was found that empty plastic cups and containers, empty aluminum foils have not been cleaned which are potential sources of mosquito larvae. The open space beside the National Health Mission building is full of garbage and used plastic cups and containers. Pranay Roy said he has asked senior officials of the Swastha Bhavan to clear the accumulated garbage within 48 hours. BMC has been carrying out extensive awareness campaigns against malaria and dengue. Residents have been asked to keep their houses clean and to clean the containers used for storing water once in a week.
BMC will write to Gyanbant Singh, Commissioner of Bidhannagar Commissionarate to clear accumulated garbage from the open space beside Bidhannagar South police station, Roy said. BMC team visited the police station on Wednesday afternoon and found used tyres, empty plastic containers, damaged vehicles which are potential sources of mosquito larvae.
"The area is surrounded by residential buildings and the condition of the police barrack is deplorable. We will request the Commissioner of Police to take steps to clear the garbage immediately," said Roy. The team also visited Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan campus. BMC officials lauded the steps taken by the school authorities to keep the campus clean.
