Blood transfusion conducted for thalassemia patients in district hospital

BALURGHAT: Blood transfusion was conducted for the thalassaemia patients in Balurghat district hospital on Saturday. It was initiated by the district health department.

Thalassaemia patients are worst victims for lack of blood transfusion following nationwide lockdown. Five such patients-two each from Kushmandi and Harirampur and one from Gangarampur was benefitted from the

drive. They were picked up from their houses and dropped back accordingly by an ambulance as the vehicles are off the road. They were provided with food after the transfusion was done.

Sources said the patients are also fighting for their lives as they cannot travel to the hospital to the lockdown and poor economic condition.

As it requires blood for transfusion, two civic volunteers had also donated blood the same day.

"I don't have enough money to meet my daily expenses. The drive helps me a lot," said a patient's family member.

A source said the thalassaemia patients are not getting blood donors for lockdown. Blood donation camps too

are not being organised regularly.
