BJP stage road blockade over worker's death

Kolkata: A chaos broke out at Mayapur area of Arambag on Wednesday morning after some BJP leaders and their party activists put up road block protesting against the killing of a party worker.

The incident led to serious traffic congestion in the area.

Senior police officers reached the spot and urged the protesters to withdraw the agitation. The protesters remained adamant and refused to lift the agitation.

Having no other option, the police had resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob. The situation was soon brought under control. The traffic movement was resumed gradually.

Some BJP activists, including a leader were detained by the police, for triggering trouble in the area.

Local BJP leaders also called a bandh in the area to protest against the killing of a leader in the area.

The BJP leaders alleged that local Trinamool Congress leaders in the area might have been involved in the incident. The district administration and police foiled their attempt to observe a bandh.

Some of the local BJP leaders threatened to organize bigger movement. RAF were also deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation.
