BJP leader had faked abduction of daughter, finds cops
Kolkata: The news of abduction of the daughter of a BJP leader in Birbhum was found to be false, as police came to know that the said BJP leader, identified as Suprabhat Batabyal, had hatched a plan about the same to gain political mileage. On Sunday, police recovered the 'abducted' daughter of Batabyal, identified as Prathama.
Batabyal had previously alleged that on Thursday evening, a few miscreants had entered his house in Labhpur and kidnapped his daughter. Following the incident, the law and order situation was in a mess as BJP supporters started agitating across Birbhum. On Saturday, MLA Manirul Islam was also obstructed by the agitators. Some of the agitators ransacked Islam's car and he had to take shelter in a local police station. During investigation, police came to know that Prathama was kept confined somewhere in North Dinajpur. Working on the information, sleuths came to know that she was in Dalkhola. Based on a tip-off, police raided a house there and recovered the girl. Sleuths had doubts about the story of abduction, as no one in the area had heard Prathama screaming for help. According to police sources, as she knew all about the drama, she did not resist. The youths who had come to 'abduct' her, were known to her as well.
After recovering Prathama, police arrested four persons including Suprabhat for lodging false complaint and sparking chaos. According to sources, Suprabhat used to be a CPM leader and later joined BJP. During his political career, several complaints were lodged against him.
