BJP leader, aide held for kicking pregnant woman in Nadia

Two persons including a BJP leader was arrested for kicking a pregnant woman on her abdomen. The incident which occurred at Sadhanpara area under Dhubulia police station in Nadia triggered tension among the local residents.

The family members of the victim alleged that the foetus died in the womb. It was learnt that a quarrel broke out between the local residents and some local BJP activists when the latter organised a devotional programme in which they were using loudspeakers.

The incident took place at Sadhanpara on Wednesday night. As the Madhyamik examination is going on, the playing of loudspeakers were causing serious inconveniences to the students.

Some of the villagers urged the organisers to stop the playing of loudspeakers as it was affecting the studies of the Madhyamilk examinees. But the organisers turned a deaf ear to their appeal. A heated altercation broke out between the two groups when the local residents asked them to stop playing of loud speakers. Two students in the area were roughed up by the organisers when they protested against the incident.

The victim woman came to their rescue when the Panchayat Pradhan of Sadhanpara II, Palash Biswas and his associates allegedly kicked her on her abdomen. The victim was taken to Krishnanagar district hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The family members of the victim have alleged that the accused did not spare the woman who was trying to save the two students from being beaten up. The accused mercilessly attacked the woman and beat her up.

Later, the family members of the victim lodged a complaint against the Biswas and some of his associates. After starting an investigation police on late Wednesday night arrested two persons including the BJP panchayat pradhan. Police are conducting raids to nab the other culprits who have been absconding since the incident had taken place.
